- edited July 2011You are the first person I've even seen with this issue. One that once we figure it out I'd be willing to bet money has nothing to do with the game but with windows or a third party program. So how bout we shelve the complaining for a bit.

tried running windows update and installing all items from critical AND optional updates related to Visual C++ ?
Installed all Windows service packs ?
Try manually installing the c++ package with the Microsoft installer:

THEN run windows update first and check for any missing updates.

There was an 'important' update in Windows Update listed as follows:

The event viewer log is below. - edited July 2011Some of the other users experiencing this error have posted that the only way to resolve it is to reinstall the OS. I truly hope there is a better solution.
- edited July 2011I had this same error, here is what worked for me:
Uninstall 2005 if it is already installed.
On Windows XP, click run and type in 'cmd'.
On windows Vista or 7, search cmd, right click on it and run as administrator.
Type in this:
fsutil resource setautoreset true C:
Replace c drive with the drive windows is installed on (99% of computer uses have it on C)
then restart the computer and try installing it again.

I dont know exactly what this does so I suggest you make a restore point before doing this.

EDIT: Apparently a damaged windows file system is the root cause. Wonder if a clean installation wouldnt be best in that case...AFTER check the HDD for errors and checking if it is still in good operating condition.

@Iscaran: I have a 240GB SSD as my main drive. When I installed the SSD, I copied the drive image from my old HDD. Do you think that could have been the cause of the damage to the Windows file system? You cant just 'copy' an operating system drive - unless you used a proper disc imaging tool then thats possibly your windows file system damage cause.Iscaran

- edited August 2011I did indeed use a disk imaging tool. It was BounceBack from CMS.
- edited January 2015Guys I tried everything with this problem and for me 1 thing worked(if you have ad-aware antivirus better turn it off).
