Part 1:Necessary components before recording

The Elgato game capture allows you to capture your gameplay at 1080p and 30 frames per second while keeping the file size low. Before you can do that, however, there are a few things you need beforehand. You will need one USB to mini-USB which will keep Elgato connected to your PC while you are playing, your Elgato game capture HD device, two HDMI cables, your PC/laptop/Mac that has HDMI output (it should work on either device), and a monitor that has an HDMI input (you can check for this at the back of your monitor in the form of a 3mm audio jack). Part 2:Software for the capturing
To download the software you can use any browser that you have installed on your PC/laptop/Mac. You will need to choose the programme suited for your operating system (eg. Windows) and download it. After it has been downloaded you simply install the software. Once that is completed, open the game capture icon on your screen. When it is opened you will see that it does not register any game capture devices. You need to install that now.
Part 3: Setting the hardware and the software

First you are going to plug in the USB cable into your computer and plug in the other side of it into your Elgato device. Once this is done the computer will recognize it but tell you that there is no signal because you have not plugged in the HDMI cable yet. Before you do this you need to setup the software from the PC itself. Go to the ‘settings’ option in the programme and select your preferred input device (if you are on PC you will choose ‘other’). The input should read ‘HDMI’ and select ‘without analog audio’. The HDMI colour range will be ‘expanded’, your profile will be ‘1080p’, and quality will depend on your personal preference. Activate ‘preserve source format’ so that it keeps the 1080p capture from your PC. Next you are going to unplug your monitor’s HDMI cable and plug it into the Elgato’s HDMI input. Take your second HDMI cable and plug it into the Elgato’s HDMI output and the other end into your monitor. Your monitor should now turn on. Drivers should be automatically detect and install immediately.
Part 4:Setting to record your own voice
Now the fun can start! You can set the device to record your voice in one of two ways. Firstly, you can use an external microphone and connect it to your PC and game capture. Secondly, you can use your PC headset. The latter is more favourable. With your PC headset you need to split it as one end needs to go into the monitor and the other into the PC itself. Make sure you turn on ‘live commentary’ and that your preferred microphone is connected.
Part 5:Recording the game
